For instance, Police incident reports may be released to the victim(s)/defendants or authorized representatives, insurance carriers, and legal representatives. For criminal history information, the El Paso Police Department gives access to authorized individuals and employers who wish to run background checks for employment purposes. These include child care centers, security guard firms, law enforcement agencies, and public utility companies. But the record owners, particularly individuals who have been arrested and processed by the El Paso Police department, are authorized to obtain copies of their criminal records.

Background checks and Clearance letters cost $6. Payment can be made in cash, money order, or by check. Make all checks payable to the City of El Paso.

A death verification letter includes the deceased's name, the date of death, and the place of death. Verification letters are available for deaths that have occurred since 1903. However, verification letters are not considered legal substitutes for certified copies of death certificates. Only eligible applicants can request certified copies of El Paso death records.
